Soft tissue grafting is a surgical procedure used to treat gum recession. When gums recede, tooth roots become exposed, leading to sensitivity, increased risk of root decay, and aesthetic concerns. During the procedure, tissue is taken from another area of the mouth (usually the palate) or a substitute material is used and grafted to the recessed area. The result is coverage of exposed roots, reduced sensitivity, and significant aesthetic improvement.
Coverage of exposed roots
Reduced tooth sensitivity
Prevention of further recession
Significant aesthetic improvement
Assessment of gum recession

Sutures and recovery instructions
Usually from the palate. Alternatively, graft substitutes can be used to avoid a donor site.
Initial healing takes 1–2 weeks. Complete tissue healing takes several months.
With proper oral hygiene and gentle brushing techniques, results can last for many years.
